Dr Carles Pedret is a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and a Specialist in Sports Medicine from the University of Barcelona. Dr Pedret’s main focus is on treating and monitoring the progression of muscle and tendon injuries, as well as managing the Return to Play process. He specialises in ultrasound diagnosis and ultrasound-guided puncture.
Interuniversity Master in Sports Traumatology and High Performance. Teaching activity in the field of ultrasound diagnosis and muscle injuries and tendon pathology at Universities such as Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona or the University of Girona.
He has participated in multiple research projects and is an author of articles published in prestigious national and international journals such as Orthopedic Journal Sports Medicine, British Journal Sports Medicine, American Journal Sports Medicine, Skeletal Radiology or Apunts: Medicina de l’Esport. Member of the Editorial Board of the magazine Sports Medicine and Sports Medicine – Open.
Dr Pedret is a permanent advisor to multiple professional teams in the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, Liga Santander and Spanish League 1 2 3, Chinese SuperLiga, Belgium Pro League and German Bundesliga at the soccer level, ACB basketball teams and the NBA and as an external advisor to the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation. He also acts as a personal doctor for different professional players.

Exclusively ‘sports knee’ surgery. 90% of patients are professional athletes- he is the usual knee surgeon for many teams including the majority of English Premiership football and rugby clubs.
He has published 138 peer-reviewed articles: some award-winning, as well as many other publications. A study of knee motion employing weight-bearing, ‘dynamic’ MRI was awarded The Hunterian Professorship by The Royal College of Surgeons of England for 2005-2006. Current focus is on the MCL after a period of work on the anterolateral soft tissues with relevance to ACL injury, and improving clinical outcomes in elite athletes. He was a lead editor of the 39th Edition of Gray’s Anatomy.
He sits on the Board of Directors of ISAKOS and serves on their finance and knee: sports and preservation committees. He is second vice-president of The ACL Study Group and so will be president in 2028. He sits on the Editorial Board of The American Journal of Sports Medicine, and previously the Editorial Board of The Bone and Joint Journal, as well as The ESSKA Sports Committee. He was on the executive of The British Association for Surgery of The Knee. In 2002 he was awarded the ABC Travelling Fellowship. He was named in the UK’s Top 100 Doctors by the Times newspaper in 2011. He is the first UK member of The Herodicus Society, a U.S. sports surgery society.
Karin Grävare Silbernagel PT, ATC, PhD is a Professor and Associate Chair at the Department of Physical Therapy, University of Delaware, Newark, DE USA. She is a clinical scientist with a strong record of mentoring clinical scientists. Her expertise is in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal injury with a focus on tendon and ligament injury. She has been a physical therapist for over 30 years and performed research for over 20 years.
Clinically she has worked with recreational to elite athletes in various sports, and consult for the NFL, and teams in the MLS, NBA, MLB, and the Premier league. At University of Delaware she is the principal investigator of the Delaware Tendon Research Group and the Delaware ACL Research Group. Her work has been directly integrated into the clinical guidelines for treatment of patients with tendon injuries. She has presented her research at numerous conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals (140+ published articles to date). She has also been invited to speak about her research at conferences nationally and internationally. Her research approach is to evaluate tendon health and recovery by quantifying tendon composition, structure, and mechanical properties, as well as patients’ impairments and symptoms. Her research is funded by the NIH, Foundation for Physical Therapy, Swedish Research Council for Sport Science, and Swedish Research Council.
Professor Fares Haddad is a Hip and Knee Reconstructive Orthopaedic and Sports Surgeon at University College Hospitals. He is Divisional Clinical Director of Surgical Specialties at UCH, and Director of the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health at University College London.
He has presented and published widely on key aspects of hip, knee and sports surgery and continues to lead a clinical research group with interests in hip and knee joint preservation after injury, the genetic influences on bone and tendon, prosthetic design and performance and outcomes measurement after hip / knee surgery and sports injuries. He is editor in chief of the Bone and Joint Journal, and is on the editorial board of The Journal of Arthroplasty, Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons and Hospital Medicine. He has been elected as a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine
Professor Calder has an internationally recognised reputation in the expert treatment of sports injuries.
He works with international athletes and sports professionals including Premier League soccer teams, Paris St Germain, FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Aviva Premiership rugby clubs in addition to the British Olympic team, British athletics, gymnastics, hockey, netball and sailing, England cricket, rugby and soccer. Furthermore, he regularly provides care for patients from the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden and Birmingham Royal Ballet and is Medical Advisor to Dance UK.
Professor Calder spent a year as foot ankle fellow to Dr Terry Saxby in Brisbane and was awarded a travelling sports orthopaedic fellowship in the USA. He was appointed Consultant at the North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke in 2002, moved to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 2010 and is a Professor in the Department of Bioengineering Imperial College, London.
Professor Calder remains actively involved in research projects at the Imperial College and the Fortius Clinic. He is President of ESSKA-AFAS and immediate Past-Chairman of the Achilles Tendon Study Group. He is Specialty Editor at the Bone and Joint Journal and was Associate Editor of Knee Surgery, Sports, Traumatology and Arthroscopy (KSSTA) Journal until 2014. Professor Calder served on the Clinical Studies Group for Arthritis Research UK and has done since 2011. His main areas of research include Achilles tendon, articular cartilage and sports-related ankle and foot injuries. He has developed a major clinical interest in the arthroscopic treatment (keyhole surgery) of ankle conditions and sports-related foot and ankle injuries.
Dr Houghton has wide and extensive experience in treating elite athletes, military personnel, city workers, adolescents, older athletes and all those who are physically active or in pain. He specialises in tendon pain utilising ultrasound and UTC scanning for diagnosis and ultrasound guided injections and ESWT (Shockwave) as potential treatments. He also has a wide range of experience in upper and lower limb overuse and running injuries, bone stress injuries, adolescent overuse injuries, hip and groin pain, exercise induced leg pain and injury rehabilitation. His rheumatology interests are bone stress, gout, inflammatory spinal conditions and inflammatory joint conditions that affect young or athletic people.
Dr Houghton has excellent communication skills and promotes a multidisciplinary approach, liaising effectively with physiotherapists, osteopaths/chiropractors, pain doctors and orthopaedic surgeons to get the best results for his patients. He understands the significant effects that injury and pain can have on normal day to day life and promotes physical activity in all of his treatment plans. Dr Houghton is the lead doctor for the Wales Football Medical Team including the 2016 and 2020 Euros and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He is also the lead doctor for the 2018 and 2022 County Cricket Champions, Surrey and the Oval Invincibles Hundred franchise.
Mathema is currently the National Medical Manager of the Welsh Rugby Union, leading on medical matters within the Union. He has previously held positions as the Head of Medical Services at Queens Park Rangers Football Club and London Wasps Rugby Club. He is also a Senior Physiotherapist within the WRU National Men’s Squad.
Other posts include being a Physiotherapist to the British and Irish Lions Rugby Team, touring with them in 2009, 2013, and 2017. In the 2021 he was selected as the Chief Medical Officer for the Lions tour to South Africa.
Mathema also acts as the Centre Director for the WRU Immediate Care In Rugby course and is a member of World Rugby’s Concussion working group.
Dr Justin Lee is a Consultant Radiologist specialising in all aspects of musculoskeletal imaging. He works as a radiologist for a number of individual sports professionals and players from premier league and championship football clubs, premiership rugby clubs and professional cricket clubs.
He also provides radiology services for Olympic Team GB and was part of the radiology team for the Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He works as a radiologist for the NFL International Series UK and the British and Irish Lions rugby squad.
Dr Lee has presented at national and international science research meetings on numerous occasions and has tutored on BMUS, UKRC MSK Ultrasound and Oxford Skills courses. Dr Lee is the author of three book chapters and has written for 42 PubMed publications in musculoskeletal imaging. He has also contributed to Gray’s Anatomy.
Jarrod is the founder of Total Performance and has been working in elite sport for over 20 years as a Consultant Sports Physiotherapist. He also works at the Fortius Clinic London running a tendon clinic for over 10 years and Complete Physio, Chelsea.
Jarrod consults to teams in the UK’s English Premier League, Premiership Rugby, tennis, track and field, as well as the NBA and NFL teams in the USA. He has a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from La Trobe University, Melbourne Australia as well as a BAppSc in Physiotherapy from University of Sydney and a BHSc from the University of Technology, Sydney and is currently a PhD candidate at Imperial College, London in Bioengineering. He specialises in Achilles and patella tendinopathy, undertaking research in the management and diagnosis.
Jarrod has presented at numerous recent international Sports Medicine and Science conferences including the 2024 NFL Medical Summit, 2024 NBA Health and Performance Conference, the NBATA and NBSCA conferences, Sports Kongress (Denmark), FISIC (London) and Isokinetics (Barcelona & London) on the diagnosis and management of tendinopathy in elite sport.
Professor Rowena Johnson is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist with expertise in diagnostic imaging and image guided treatments of elite athletes. She works with numerous international athletes and clubs including within the Premier League, Championship football, Lawn Tennis Association, British Olympic team, British Athletics, British Triathlon, international rugby and cricket, and the Royal Ballet.
She is the Chair of Sports Medicine Imaging at the Carnegie School of Sport, Leeds Beckett University, the largest provider of sport in UK higher education and is experienced in international elite sports imaging including the Pan American and Para Pan American Games. She also treats adolescent athletes having worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Sick Kids, Toronto.
She has a wide breadth of experience also having worked at the University of Toronto Hospitals, and as a consultant at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford University Hospitals. Her clinical practice covers all aspects of musculoskeletal imaging including nerve injuries, trauma, spine abnormalities, bone and soft tissue tumours, bone infection and rheumatological conditions.
She is the Chair and Clinical Lead of the Royal College of Radiologists Education. She oversees the clinical radiology annual congress, national and international meetings and the online education platform. She has also been appointed to the Royal College of Radiologists Faculty Board.
She has led iRefer, the Royal College of Radiologists’ flagship publication. This is an internationally recognised framework for patients to have the optimum investigation and intervention for all radiological specialties including musculoskeletal, and ensure high standards of care.
Dr. Johannes Roth is a graduate of the University of Tubingen in Germany, he completed his pediatric residency and pediatric rheumatology fellowship in Tubingen and subsequently worked at the Charité in Berlin before coming to Canada. He was a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Dermatology and Rheumatology at CHEO from 2007-2023. Since May 2023 he is chief of pediatric rheumatology in Luzern and Winterthur, Switzerland and also the director of the interdisciplinary centre for rare diseases in Luzern.
He has a longstanding interest in the clinical use as well as education and research of musculoskeletal ultrasound with a focus on pediatrics. He was a co-founder and first president of the Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society and is the chair of the steering committee of Ped-musTM, an international initiative for the implementation of pediatric musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Professor Ernest Schilders is a specialist in minimally-invasive hip surgery and has a unique professional portfolio combining expertise in hamstring problems, complex groin pain and hip arthroscopy. Professor Schilders has treated footballers from all the Premier League and Championship clubs, and clubs from all the other major European Leagues. He treats professional sports players across multiple other disciplines including cricket, tennis and rugby, and is a founding member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
Professor Schilders is a world leading expert in adductor and groin problems in athletes. Furthermore, he has particular expertise in the treatment of femoro-acetabular impingement and was the first UK-based author to publish a large study in this field that has enhanced the knowledge of this condition. He has unparalleled experience in arthroscopic labral repairs and labral grafting of the hip, having performed in excess of 4,000 procedures.
Since 2015 he has held the post of Professor in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine in the Carnegie School of Sport at Leeds Beckett University. He is an expert in anatomy of the groin, and one of his key discoveries was the existence of the pyramidalis-anterior pubic ligament-adductor longus complex (PLAC), a concept which has revolutionised the understanding of groin pain in athletes.
Professor Schilders has undertaken numerous studies on adductor problems in athletes, researching and designing the state of the art MRI protocol for adductor injuries, conservative management and minimally-invasive surgical treatment. He has pioneered surgical techniques for adductor and hamstring tears, PLAC injuries and sports hernias to allow a faster return to play, and protect from recurrent injuries.
Professor Schilders is an internationally recognised expert who treats patients from all over the world, and is sought after as an opinion for complex groin problems, hamstring injuries as well as hip preservation.
Dr Lorenzo Masci is a Sports and Exercise Medicine physician based at OneWelbeck Orthopaedics who take a holistic approach to diagnosing and managing any musculoskeletal condition.
In addition to managing many musculoskeletal conditions, Dr Masci has expertise in diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions such as injections. By combining a clinical assessment with diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions in one visit, he can provide a one-stop solution for most musculoskeletal conditions. Examples of conditions for which he can provide a one-stop solution include tendon problems of the lower limb and pelvis, shoulder rotator cuff pain, tennis elbow, hip and groin pain, plantar fasciitis, and non-surgical osteoarthritis.
Dr Masci has undertaken extensive and vigorous specialist training. After graduating from medical school and hospital residency in Australia, he completed a four-year specialist physician training program with the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians. After moving to London in 2007, Lorenzo quickly established himself in the Sports Medicine community working in the British military, private practice and elite sporting organisations such as Fulham Football club and Wasps Rugby. Prior to moving, he worked as a consultant for Melbourne Storm Rugby League, Tennis Australia and the Victorian Weightlifting and Judo Associations.
Dr Raymond Leung is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine who works as a consultant in the private sector and in professional sport. He previously worked as an NHS Consultant at Homerton University Hospital in London. He has extensive clinical experience in the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries across a variety of age groups from recreational to elite athletes. He also has experience in treating medical problems related to sports, exercise related illnesses, biomechanical issues and other musculoskeletal disorders. He is highly skilled in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound scan and offers a range of ultrasound-guided injections such as corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid, platelet rich plasma (PRP), hydrodistension/dilatation and high volume injections.
Dr Leung currently works with the professional development squads at Arsenal Football Club. He previously worked at West Ham United Football Club with the professional development and youth development squads, and he was the club doctor for the women’s first team squad. Furthermore, he has worked as a medical officer for a range of other sporting disciplines and events such as the Lawn Tennis Association, British Figure Skating, All England Badminton, British Universities and Colleges Sport, Para-swimming, and the London Marathon.
James graduated from Birmingham University in 2002. After a year as an anatomy lecturer, he completed his surgical training (Trauma & Orthopaedics) in the Midlands. He completed his Masters in Sport & Exercise Medicine at QMUL, Barts and The London Hospital in 2006. After two years General Medicine and Rheumatology training in the Oxford region, he undertook more training in Sports and Exercise (SEM) in the London Deanery. He completed his MRCP and MRCS during this process to formally qualify his breadth of clinical experience.
He has also gained a PGC in Medical Ultrasound and uses the imaging modality on a daily basis as an invaluable diagnostic point of care tool.
James is a fellow of the UK Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, and has worked at numerous centres of excellence, including the military centre DMRC Headley Court. He has been clinical lead in Orthopaedics and SEM for the Hertfordshire Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group and headed a musculoskeletal interface service in primary care. He also assisted in the development of a multidisciplinary SEM service at Charing Cross. He currently holds private clinics at Pure Sports Medicine, Bank (London) and at Spire Hartswood Hospital, Warley.
James has been involved in elite sports for over nine years. He worked with Womens RFU and spent three years with Esher RFC, before joining London Irish RFC as head doctor in 2012. He has worked with UK Athletics, GB Paralympic squad, the English Institute of Sport, GB and England Disability Football squads, England Hockey, British Gymnastics, GB Basketball and Essex CCC.
He has also worked as a medical officer at the UK Schools games and at the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in the athletes village Polyclinic, and also as a field-of-play team leader.
Paul has a first class BSc (Hons) degree in physiotherapy which he gained from The University of East London. He also has a Sports Medicine masters degree from University College London and a PG Cert in Diagnostic Ultrasound. Paul gained extensive experience in the NHS at Chelsea and Westminster and the Royal London Hospitals. Paul is First team rehabilitation physiotherapist for a leading Premier League Football team and has previously been Head of Sports Science and Medicine at Great Britain Basketball and squad Physiotherapist for Essex County Cricket Club. Paul has a special interest in lower limb injury, particularly the foot and ankle which was the focus of his masters degree.
Alicia is an international Sports titled physiotherapist whose career has taken her Australian Rules football in Melbourne, to consulting for EXOS (formerly Athletes Performance), working with the Chinese Olympic Team for Rio, to 7 years with the English National Women’s Football team “Lionesses” and now her current role as Head of Medical for Academy at Derby FC.
Having completed her Undergraduate and Masters Degree at La Trobe University in Australia – Alicia has also been privileged to have worked in National Level Rugby Union, Ice Hockey, Australian Baseball League/MLB teams in America and most recently Manchester United Women’s Team.
Alicia’s experience at major sporting events includes – Olympics, Women’s Euros/World Cups, Spring training MLB and World Championships for Weightlifting, Table tennis and Gymnastics.
Elliott Clarke is a highly experienced sports Physiotherapist who has gained a strong reputation in the field of rehabilitation.
Elliott is currently a Senior Physiotherapist with the First Team at Arsenal Football Club, who he joined in the 2022/23 season. Before moving to Arsenal he worked at Harlequins Rugby Club for over 8 seasons, holding various roles and was the Head of Rehabilitation from 2019. Prior to working in elite sport Elliott spent 4 years in the NHS, private practice and semi-professional rugby.
Elliott continues to mentor practitioners working in a variety of settings in elite sport, and is regularly sought by surgeons, sports medicine doctors and physiotherapists to provide a second opinion on complex rehabilitation cases.
